the HUMAN herd

  • From her earliest memories, Jordanna was tuned in to the whispers of the natural world and is a lifelong student of the teachings of the 7-Directions as well as the symbolism contained within The Dreaming. During an out of body experience when she was an adolescent, a being appeared and offered her the following insight: "In every moment, you have a choice. You can choose to live in a story that is created by what's happening to you; or you can choose to live in a story where you are the creator of events. Your experience is simply your choice." Jordanna carried this spiritual guidance as a compass into adulthood and in 2018, one of her school horses spoke and told her a story of the direct correlation between global well-being and humankind’s relationship with both the horse ― domestication to present ― and the natural world ― hunter-gather society to present. This communication was a choice-point in Jordanna's journey, and it initiated an immersive walk alongside Horse to explore and experience the synonymous character and spirit in which both horses and indigenous cultures live their lives: aware and attuned to nature’s inherent design of cooperation and congruence. Jordanna traveled to Western Australia, Indonesia, and Hawaii where she was a student of the land and several Medicine Keepers who gifted her the remembering of the Horse as a representation of Nature. When she returned to the PNW, she held a strongly rooted understanding of the need to cultivate a community connection space where the approach to holistic well-being was inspirited by indigenous wisdoms and inspired by the Medicine Horse and her way of life. She made a choice to create what was being called forward and CHOICE Tribe was born.

Jordanna works as a Congruent Communication Coach with humans and horses, a Medicine Drum Dreaming Guide, an artist, a story holder, and a communication channel for those without spoken language. She is the creator of Equine Experiential InnerStanding™ and the specialization of CHOICE Horsemanship™. Her work focuses on guiding humans and horses to oneness by revitalizing indigenous approaches to live in harmony with the natural world.

CHOICE Tribe was founded in 2019 out of a deep admiration and reverence for the Horse alongside Jordanna's indigenous heritage―Hupa―which honors the inextricable connection between the natural world and spirit plane. The programs CHOICE Tribe presents to the world are an embodiment of the original knowing that there is no separation between Nature and the People, because we are Nature.

Jordanna is an enrolled member of the federally recognized Hoopa Valley Tribe of Northern California and has indigenous ancestry in the Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation and the geographic regions of the Azores, Yucatan, and Scotland.

Warren Anawalt & Linda Blake

  • Warren and Linda have been an integral part of CHOICE Tribe, working alongside their daughter, Jordanna. Their journey together with horses began in childhood when they met through 4-H, sparking a lifelong passion for horsemanship and connection with the land.

In 2020, Warren, Linda, and Jordanna made the bold decision to relocate CHOICE Tribe from Bend, Oregon, to Ahualoha, Hawai’i, embarking on a shared vision to create an off-grid education center. Their deep commitment to sustainable living and honoring the connection between horses and the land naturally aligned with the homestead that is now home to CHOICE Tribe Hawai’i and five of the CHOICE Herd horses.

Living full-time at the CHOICE Tribe homestead, Warren and Linda dedicate themselves to caring for the horses and continually developing the infrastructure needed for educational programs. Their stewardship ensures that CHOICE Tribe Hawai’i thrives as a place where people can reconnect with nature, learn sustainable practices, and deepen their relationship with horses.

Holly Postlewaite

  • My journey has always been one of devotion—to family, animals, horses, and the deeper callings of the natural world. I’ve lived as a steward, a caregiver, and a student of life in all its forms.

With a secular education and a degree in sales and marketing, my early path was practical and people-centered. But everything shifted in 2024 with a profound spiritual awakening. Motherhood, grandmotherhood, sisterhood, friendship, and marriage have all shaped me into someone who leads with empathy and heart.

I’ve dedicated myself to serving children of all ages, the elderly, and individuals in recovery from substance use. These relationships and experiences have offered deep wells of wisdom that continue to guide me.

I remain a lifelong student—of horses, the metaphysical, martial arts, Qigong, Tai Chi, meditation, energy work, and HeartMath. Listening to people share their stories on podcasts sparked the transformation I’m in now and eventually led me to my current life coach, Jordanna.

    Horses: My First Language
Some of my earliest memories are of embodying a horse—running on my hands and knees, holding a pencil in my mouth as a bit, and asking family members to be the horse so I could ride on their backs.

Time at the family farm gave me my first rides on a pony named Holly. Later, local livery stables and neighborhood barns gave me chores and connection—mucking, feeding, and learning through doing. At eleven, I got my first horse and rode bareback through neighborhoods and into the trails. Riding by feel—bareback and intuitive—was my way of being with horses.

Over time, I lost that feel and unknowingly replaced it with dominance. In my 50s, I moved to Tennessee Walkers to ease the strain of arthritis, but by 2016, I stepped away from horses altogether when I relocated from the Midwest to western Arizona and focused on family, especially my grandson.

    The Return and The Reckoning
In 2022, Spirit reawakened my connection to horses. As I explored different trainers and approaches, I began to see how control and dominance had been the undercurrent in my horsemanship. What had once seemed natural no longer felt aligned. Methods I had once used—and even advised others to follow—suddenly felt wrong. I used to say, “You can’t hurt them; let them know you’re the boss. Don’t be afraid to kick.” Now those words sit heavy and out of place with who I’ve become.

Today, I'm reclaiming the feel I once had and honoring the deeper wisdom horses always tried to share with me. My life continues to be a practice of listening, learning, and living from the heart. –Holly

the places we call HOME

central oregon | CHOICE sanctuary

a collaboration with broken arrow ranch & sanctuary

Located in the southern foothills of Oregon’s Maury Mountains, Broken Arrow Ranch & Sanctuary stretches across 2,000 acres of high desert sagebrush and volcanic buttes within the Ochoco National Forest. This land is an ancient story, shaped by fire and time, holding native sage biome, wildlife habitat, and hidden veins of jasper, quartz, and petrified wood. For CHOICE Tribe, it is a place of homecoming and renewal. Here, we are listening to the land and choosing to restore balance through rotational grazing, soil regeneration, and native plant propagation. The ranch is a sanctuary where the ecosystem and community can thrive together—a living guide for our stewardship journey and a home for the CHOICE Herd.

Land Acknowledgement | Broken Arrow Ranch lies within the ancestral homelands of the Nüümü (Northern Paiute), Wasq’u (Wasco), and Tana’nma (Warm Springs) peoples, who have cared for these lands since time immemorial. The Hampton Butte and Maury Mountains region provided vital resources for hunting, fishing, and gathering, shaping lifeways rooted in reciprocity with the land. In 1855, through the Treaty of Middle Oregon, these territories were ceded to the U.S. government, though the Wasco, Warm Springs, and Northern Paiute peoples retained their inherent rights to hunt, fish, and gather in their traditional places.

Despite displacement and the ongoing impacts of colonization, their deep connection to this land endures. Today, these peoples are represented by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, and we also acknowledge the historical ties of the Burns Paiute Tribe and the Klamath Tribes to the greater Central Oregon region. We recognize that our presence here is on stolen land, and we walk as guests in these sacred spaces. With gratitude and humility, we commit to listening, learning, and tending the land in ways that honor Indigenous sovereignty, resilience, and ancestral wisdom

āhualoa, hawai’i | CHOICE homestead

Located on the Hāmākua Coast of Hawai’i, the Āhualoa homestead sits on 17 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the summit of Mauna Kea. This ʻāina is a living expression of reciprocity, reverence, and renewal. Caretaking for this is ʻāina is a conscious act to choose regenerative, nature-centric living. Listening to land’s wisdoms and moving from the heart, we are educating ourselves and implementing indigenous land design, stewardship, and building techniques. The Homestead is a place of guidance for Jordanna and her family and a sanctuary for their personal CHOICE Herd. Our dream is to create a space to be natural congruence for the local community and CHOICE Tribe Team.

Land Acknowledgment I We acknowledge that the ‘āina on which our homestead is located in the Ahualoa Homesteads, in the ahupuaʻa of Āhualoa, Hāmākua, is part of the larger territory recognized by Indigenous Hawaiians as their ancestral grandmother, Papahānaumoku. We recognize that her majesty Queen Lili‘uokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom and these territories under duress and protest to the United States to avoid the bloodshed of her people. We further recognize that Hawai‘i remains an illegally occupied state of America. We recognize that each moment we are in Hawai‘i she nourishes and gifts us with the opportunity to breathe her air, eat from her soils, drink from her waters, bathe in her sun, swim in her oceans, be kissed by her rains, and be embraced by her winds. We further recognize that generations of Indigenous Hawaiians and their knowledge systems shaped Hawai‘i in sustainable ways that allow us to enjoy these gifts today. For this we are grateful and as settlers, we seek to support the varied strategies that the Indigenous peoples of Hawai‘i are using to protect their land and their communities, and we commit to dedicating time and resources to working in solidarity.
